Peterborough & Distric Family History Society

The Society archives have been built up over the years from information kindly donated by members and others or as the result of transcription/research projects organised by the Society. The archives concentrate on information relating to the original Soke of Peterborough (see Parishes), but also holds information on adjacent communities.

The Society has an on-going project to copy most of our paper archives into electronic format for safety and ease of access. This also involves constructing a Names Index so that searches for information can be more focused.

Much archive information has already been published on CD (see Publications). The Society intends to issue additional CDs as and when the remaining archives are transferred to electronic format. Details of new CDs will be circulated to local Family History Societies plus the Family History Press.

Initial enquiries to the Archivist will be answered (where relevant) with an extract from the Names Index. If more detailed information is required about any particular entry then the Archivist will supply it to members free of charge. Non-members (or researchers on their behalf) may consult the actual records free of charge by appointment.
