THE SOCIETY’S MEETING VENUE HAS CHANGED TO

Meetings are on the 1st Wednesday of the month unless otherwise stated and our usual format is:

 

  • 7.00 – 7.30 Doors open for “Social time” with tea/coffee & biscuits
  • 7.30 – 8.15 Family history topic presentation *
  • 8.15 – 9.00 Workshop on topic + Help Desk for your family history problems

Visitors are welcome to come and ‘dip a toe in the water’
(suggested donation £2 per meeting)

 

* Major Meeting - About 3 times a year we invite the speaker to give a major family history presentation and thus the workshop element is curtailed. Even at those meetings we will have a help desk for you to discuss problems.

2 September
Civil Registration 1837-2015
Vice-President Michael Kennelly will use his 30+ years experience to talk about and lead a workshop on this important Family History facility.
7 October
Brick Walls
Come and share your research problems and successes - Members will be keen to help with the former and learn from the latter.
4 November
1939 National Identity Card Register (Major Meeting)
The 1931 census was destroyed and the1941 census not taken so these are the only “census-type” records which may help you locate people. Myko Clelland from Find My Past will about talk the public release of these records.
2 December
Christmas Traditions
Maureen James will talk about traditions associated with Christmas festivities followed by some “Christmas fare”.

6 January UK Census 1841-1911
Following on from the November talk, Vice-President Ewan Cappitt will use his 30+ years experience to talk about and lead a workshop on this important Family History facility.
3 February Members’ Stories
Come and share your favourite ancestral story and how you discovered it - Members will be keen to learn from your methods.
2 March Talk (Major Meeting)
Family History subject and speaker to be arranged
6 April Wills & Probate Records
Vice-President Ewan Cappitt will use his 30+ years experience to talk about and lead a workshop on this important Family History facility
4 May AGM + Care for the Poor in Peterborough (Major Meeting)
Following our AGM (usually short) local historian Stephen Perry will talk about how the poor were (or were not) cared for in the city.
1 June Brick Walls
Come and share your research problems and successes - Members will be keen to help with the former and learn from the latter.
6 July Free Resources on the Internet
Steve Manning with lead a workshop on how to obtain the most from the FREE family history internet resources.
